Iced Caramel Macchiato - what is it?
Iced Caramel Macchiato is a cold coffee drink consisting of milk, ice, vanilla syrup, espresso and caramel topping. It is served in layers: first milk with syrup, then ice, then espresso and on top - caramel.
History of the drink
Created at Starbucks in 1996 for the 25th anniversary of the company.
The name "macchiato" in Italian means "spotted", as coffee is added to milk and "smeaks" it.
In the classic Italian macchiato, on the contrary, there is a little milk in espresso. And Starbucks adapted the recipe for the American audience, making it sweeter and more layered.
